Why choose
Smith Family Dentistry?

We not only accept our differences but we treasure them. They are the key to having a rich office environment for our team and clients. We know that in order to make a difference, we need to include and respect all people in society.

Respect is knowing what someone’s wishes are and caring about them. A respectful office environment was created by Dr. David Smith in 1975 and continues today with the team at Smith Family Dentistry.

You won’t find yourself leaving our office feeling bad about the choices you made in the dental chair. Not only are your choices accepted, they are treasured.

A Tribute to Our Founder

He loved telling the story of what his dental care looked like when he was a child growing up in Northern Ontario.

A dentist would arrive by train, line all the town’s children up and go through the line from start to end. The dentist would give each child a needle (hello infection control?!) and then start at the top of the line again and extract whichever teeth looked like they needed to be pulled.

  • Dr. David Smith thought to himself as a child, “Surely there has to be a better way.” And did he ever prove that there was a better way for people to be treated by a dentist. Upon graduating, he dedicated the rest of his life to treating people as he would want to be treated. He would light up the room with his never failing optimism and cheerfulness.

He was always “better than perfect.” If you were scared of the dentist, that would completely melt away when in Dr. David Smith’s chair. His dental work was rock solid and you could be rest assured that if he told you something needed to be done it was true. He would see people for emergencies even on Christmas Day with a smile on his face. With Dr. David Smith you could trust that you would be treated like a friend. Even those who were looked down upon by many in society, those without a roof over their head, who couldn’t afford to pay, who were in jail, who had addictions that devastated their life, Dr. David Smith treated them with the same respect and kindness he treated everyone.

An absolute tragic loss to society, Dr. David Smith passed away June 23, 2019. He had an osteosarcoma in his knee that was diagnosed in December 2018 and spread to his lungs and then in his final days to his brain. Despite his incredible pain he was still smiling and a joy to be around right up until the end.

Dr. David Smith is the founder of Smith Family Dentistry

If you were lucky enough to have Dr. David Smith as your dentist,

you would know he was unlike any other dentist.

Remembering Patti Lauridsen, “The People’s Hygienist”

Patti dedicated her life to making the lives of Smith Family Dentistry clients more enjoyable. As their hygienist for years, she became like family to so many people. Her joy of life was contagious and she could make even the most scared person relax and enjoy their visit. Sadly, Patti passed away in 2014 and is deeply missed by all.
